A Typical Kiama Toastmaster Meeting
Meetings start at 7:00pm.
Everyone stands and says a sentence or two about a topic given by the chairman.
Someone will stand up and give a Table Tonic. This is a short story or poem. It might be a few jokes or something inspirational.
We will hear the Word of the Night. The word will be explained and put into a sentence. The challenge is for club members to use the word throughout the meeting.
Next are the Table Topics. One member will be the Table Topics Master and will provide short speech topics. These might be questions or statements. The Table Topic Master will then select a club member to respond. Table Topic Speeches generally last for two minutes each. This is a way to improve your impromptu speaking skills.
Following this is the Club's General Business Section.
The second half of the meeting is for speeches. These are prepared speeches. Most speeches range from five to ten minutes. Each speech is evaluated by a different club member. Evaluations are mostly positive, with one or two areas for improvements given when needed.
The end of the meeting is for counting the ums and ers said by members, asking listening questions, drawing the raffle for the wine or chocolate and the final Master Evaluation.
Meetings close at approx 9:00pm.
